New Drain Route Uncovered: Groundworks Begin at Claremont Hotel

Date: Week Ending 23 August 2024

Initial remedial drainage works have begun at the Claremont Hotel. A soil stack previously backing up into reception has now been successfully rerouted into MHC2, allowing MHC1 to be decommissioned and infilled with concrete.

Excavation through Zones 2 and 3 is progressing to redirect the hotel’s combined waste out to Villiers Lane. A new six-inch pipe is being laid to serve this purpose. Internal drainage discoveries, including a live 4-inch kitchen waste pipe, are being retained to keep the kitchen operational.

Trial core holes inside the plant room revealed an 8-inch slab with an unexpected void beneath in four out of five tests. DGC Ltd is now preparing a stabilisation method that avoids shutting down heating and hot water services.

Works remain on programme and the site is safely secured.
