Drop It Like It's Slot: Gabion Wall Takes Shape at Removal's House

Date: Week Ending 11 April 2025

Significant progress was made this week on structural and drainage works at Removal’s House. The newly built Gabion block retaining wall is now in position and ready for concrete backfilling. This will provide long-term stability at the rear of the site and allow Gabion baskets to be fitted into place.

On the drainage front, the Northern system has been laid to correct falls, with a drop chamber now built and awaiting Building Control inspection. Once approved, the system will be backfilled and topped, forming a key part of the site’s infrastructure. The Southern system has also begun, with teams aiming to reach inspection readiness by Monday afternoon-marking an early milestone if achieved.

The stage area has been CCTV-surveyed and compacted, now ready for encapsulation in concrete. Additional fall protection has been installed along unstable ground edges to ensure safety. Meanwhile, new signage has been added along Finch Road, improving privacy and presentation, and site safety continues to meet best-practice standards thanks to oversight from Chris Baker.
